Packed Size Matters More Than Weight
A tent that's 500g lighter isn't much use if it won't fit across your panniers. Look for pole sections under around 40cm, making them much easier to pack on a motorcycle.
Two Doors Are Worth Paying For
If you're sharing a tent, two entrances mean neither of you has to climb over the other in the middle of the night. They also give you separate vestibules for helmets, boots and riding gear.
Waterproof Ratings
Don't get too hung up on huge waterproof numbers.
A quality tent with a 2,000–3,000mm hydrostatic head will comfortably handle most UK festival weather. Build quality and good pitching are often more important than chasing the biggest specification.
Freestanding vs Pegged
Freestanding tents can be moved after pitching, which is useful if you discover you've chosen a slightly wonky campsite. They also cope better with hard ground where pegs can be difficult to drive in
If you're camping from your bike, pitch your tent at home first. Not only will you know exactly how it goes together after a long ride, you'll also find the most efficient way to repack it into its stuff sack—something that's often much harder than the manufacturer makes it look!
