Do You Actually Need Them?

If you're only heading to a summer festival with soft ground, you can probably get away without carrying a mallet, or waiting to borrow one but when everyone is striking down its a little harder to get hold of one.

However, stronger tent pegs are worth considering regardless. They're one of those inexpensive upgrades that can save a lot of frustration if you arrive to find hard, stony ground or have to pitch in windy conditions.

Most tents come with basic pegs, but they're often one of the first things to bend on a hard campsite. Upgrading to stronger pegs and carrying a lightweight mallet can make pitching your tent much quicker, especially after a long day on the road.

Before leaving home, count your tent pegs. It's surprisingly easy to arrive at a festival only to discover one has gone missing from your last trip. Throwing two or three spare pegs into your luggage takes up almost no space and could save your weekend.
