I have been riding for 10 years now. My bike is a Honda Rebel 500, and I absolutely love it. As I'm quite petite, it's the perfect bike for me.
It all started after a trip to Sicily. My partner came back and decided that we should both get our motorcycle licences after spending a few days riding mopeds while we were there.
I was terrified. I remember saying, "You must be joking!"
His response was, "Well, I'll pass my licence and you'll stay at home..."
No way!
So I took my CBT (twice!) and bought a 125cc bike. Believe me, I dropped it a few times and it was all a bit chaotic in the beginning.
After a few weeks, we started going on short rides close to home. At the time, we were living in London. Then, in June, we took our first real motorcycle holiday from Brighton to Bath and back again.
That trip changed everything.
It was then that I decided to go for my full motorcycle licence. My partner passed his in January, and I passed mine in October. Looking back, I'm so grateful that he pushed me to do it. It was one of the best decisions of our lives.
Over the last 10 years, we've ridden all over the UK, and we have loved every minute of it.
Two years ago, we moved to Scotland, and it has been an absolute pleasure riding here. After years of riding in London and around England, the roads and scenery in Scotland feel very special.
One of my favourite rides was a trip to visit our family in France a few years ago. I was so proud to arrive on my motorcycle and show them what I had achieved. We travelled from London to Saumur in western France, then on to Marseille in the south, Bordeaux in the south-west, and finally back home again. It was three weeks on the road, and I loved every moment of it.
For me, motorcycling means freedom. It means discovering new places, having adventures, and being part of something unique.
My advice to other women is simple: take your time to learn. You're doing it for yourself, not for anyone else. Build your confidence at your own pace and enjoy every moment.
